April 2015: Sydney, 12 at the time, had been competitively cheering for 5 years and decides she wants “more”. I ask her, “what is more?” She replies, “more competitions, more teams, more challenges, Summit! Worlds!…Cheer Extreme!!” After making a "pro-con" list, we decided to support her decision & make the switch.

May 2015: All by herself knowing very few people, Sydney attends tryouts. That is where her story began at Cheer Extreme Raleigh. Sydney was placed on a Senior level 2 team and a Junior level 3 team. We were welcomed with open arms. The following year she worked hard, gained new skills and was placed on a Junior level 3 team and a Junior level 4 team.

August 2017: Building on her tumbling and developing into a strong main base and backspot, she is currently on a Junior level 4 team and a Junior level 5 team. We have watched Sydney steadily progress in the sport that she truly loves. She has won countless jackets, backpacks, National titles etc, and competed at The Summit with 4 different teams, however that is not what it is all about. The most impressive part of our whole journey thus far is that Sydney is learning life lessons on and off the mat at Cheer Extreme. She is a straight A student, is in clubs at school as well as a Varsity cheerleader as a Freshman. These are all things encouraged and supported by Kelly and her amazing staff. Sydney has had the opportunity to be coached by 8 different coaches on the various levels. While they each have their own unique coaching styles, the one thing they all have in common is that they each truly love and care about Sydney’s athletic, academic, social and emotional well being.

We love being a part of the Cheer Extreme Raleigh family and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Sydney!

Stefani Leonard

11 years ago I walked into Cheer Extreme Raleigh with my daughter Caroline who was 12 years old. She had been cheering at another local gym for 2 years previously before that was on the Pop Warner Circuit but the current gym could no longer meet her needs. Her skills were advancing and even though we were happy at the other gym my husband and I knew Caroline needed a bigger gym that could not only meet her current needs but advance her to the next level. So fast forward when my youngest daughter, Layla, was ready to cheer at the age of 5 we knew exactly where we would place her.... Cheer Extreme! That year I had a Senior on a Worlds team and one on a Tiny team. Over my 11 years at CEA I have seen this staff work with kids from the ages of 5 to 19 on every possible level through every possible team and wouldn't want my daughters anywhere else but CEA. The staff is very hands on in their instructions. The owner Kelly Helton takes time to get to know each athlete and their own unique style of learning. She learns to tap into their individual needs through positive reinforcement, games, team building and mentoring her athletes. She will encourage them to reach their own personal goals and when they are ready to take flight into their next chapter Kelly will write letters of recommendations and help them in any way she can. She hopes once you step through the CEA doors you become part of her cheer family. I would recommend (and have recommended) CEA Raleigh to anyone that is interested in competitive cheer it is simply the best program not only in our area but in the country.
